Peter Stein, Member of the Firm, will present "Diversity/Inclusion/Equal Employment Opportunities: Do Conflicts Exist?" for the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
This evening event will include a discussion about the potential conflicts that exist when attempting to create a robust diversity program while at the same time complying with the dictates of Federal, state and local employment discrimination laws. How do companies develop these programs while at the same time ensuring that they are not engaged in "reverse discrimination?" While the ends may be laudable, are the means legal? What does recent case law say about those efforts?
What does it mean to be an affirmative action employer? How do affirmative action programs differ from diversity/inclusion programs. What are the limits of affirmative action?
How should mentoring programs and affinity groups work?
Do issues arise when organizations tie compensation to meeting specific affirmative action or diversity goals?
