We invite you to join us at a cocktail/buffet reception to celebrate Diversity Awareness Month and to honor Christine C. Quinn for her lifetime commitment to diversity. We are proud to present her with our sixth annual “Make a Difference” Award.
Since 2015, Ms. Quinn has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Win (formerly Women in Need), the largest provider of shelter, social services, and supportive housing for homeless families in New York City. Under Ms. Quinn’s leadership, Win has given thousands of homeless women and children the support they need to break the cycle of homelessness.
Ms. Quinn began her career serving as head of the Housing Justice Campaign for the Association of Neighborhood and Housing Development. She entered politics to manage the City Council campaign of Thomas Duane in 1991, after which she served as Duane's Chief of Staff for five years. She later became the Executive Director of the New York City Anti-Violence Project and was appointed to the NYC Police/Community Relations Task Force by then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
In a 1999 special election, Ms. Quinn ran for New York City Council in District Three, which covers the Manhattan neighborhoods of Chelsea and Greenwich Village and parts of SoHo and Murray Hill. In 2001, she won her first full term on the City Council and subsequently won re-election in 2005 and 2009. Ms. Quinn was elected Speaker of the New York City Council in January 2006 and was re-elected in 2010; she is the first female and first openly gay person to hold this position. While on the City Council, Ms. Quinn served as Chair of the Health Committee. She sponsored the Equal Benefits Bill and the Health Care Security Act, which requires that New York City contractors provide parity in benefits between married spouses and registered domestic partners.
