Epstein Becker Green’s Stuart Gerson Selected for Cyber Security Information Sharing Analysis Organization Standards Organization

Washington, DC (February 18, 2016) – Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that Stuart M. Gerson, Member of the Firm in the Litigation and Health Care & Life Sciences practices, has been selected to serve as a core member of the government relations and privacy and security working groups of the Information Sharing Analysis Organization (ISAO) Standards Organization (SO). In this capacity, Mr. Gerson, who has lengthy litigation and counseling experience with respect to cyber security and data privacy, particularly in the health care area, already is engaged in spearheading the development and coordination of voluntary cyber security information-sharing standards and tools while harmonizing governmental and private sector interests.

As an outcome of the President’s Executive Order 13691, the Department of Homeland Security sponsored a grant project that led to the formation of the ISAO SO, which is utilizing a collaborative and open process to encourage the development and formation of ISAOs by creating a common set of voluntary standards along with essential tools and guides that help address the baseline capabilities that ISAOs need to effectively engage in the sharing of information related to cyber security risks and threats.

The SO seeks to assemble and build upon the many successes already achieved and to identify (or develop where needed) standards, guidelines, best practices and other products that will help build a national program of voluntary cyber security information sharing. Mr. Gerson has been an active participant in various national events conducted by the SO and is intimately involved in the construct and coordination of the public and private cyber initiatives that are resulting from this undertaking.

White, executive director of the ISAO SO and director of the UTSA Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security.

Mr. Gerson has been an active public servant, having held various prominent government positions, including serving as Acting Attorney General of the United States and as head of the Civil Division of the Department of Justice.
