Newark, NJ (August 20, 2021)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that James (Jim) P. Flynn, Managing Director and Member of the Firm, has accepted the invitation to be Co-Director of the John C. Lifland American Inn of Court. Jim joins Mary E. Bartkus, Special Counsel at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, in leading the Lifland Inn for the 2021–2023 cycle.

The American Inns of Court is an association of lawyers, federal and state judges, law professors, law students, and other legal professionals from all levels and backgrounds dedicated to promoting the highest levels of professionalism, ethics, civility, and excellence in the practice of law. With nearly 400 chartered Inns in 48 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Tokyo, and nearly 30,000 active members nationwide, American Inns of Court strive to inspire the legal community to advance the rule of law through example, education, and mentoring.

The John C. Lifland American Inn of Court is dedicated to fostering and developing the practice of federal litigation and intellectual property (IP) law. Jim will lead this specific Inn as Co-Director by drawing on his practice experience in IP, his role as EBG’s Managing Director, and his ongoing advocacy of the role civility and values must have in successful law firms and for successful lawyers. For many years he has devoted his time and attention to the firm’s strategic mission, importantly, the role firm culture plays in shaping and supporting the firm’s mission. In doing that, Jim has championed an enduring Values Commitment to qualities shared by the American Inns of Court, including professional growth, mentorship, collaboration, high ethical standards, and focused excellence.

“As a former student and young lawyer member from the period of the Lifland Inn’s founding, as well as Master member for more than ten years, I am deeply honored to step into this new role with Mary, a friend and fellow longtime Inn member,” Jim said. “The Lifland Inn has allowed me to build lasting professional relationships and provided me, and so many others, a forum for discussing pressing legal issues, experiences, and advice. It has also provided many mentoring opportunities throughout my career, first as student member and later as a mentor. I look forward to serving the Inn, and hope that many more young lawyers begin a similar journey by seeking membership in their local American Inns of Court.”

“I am delighted that Jim has been elected as my Co-Director, and look forward to leading the Inn with him over the next two years,” said Mary. “We are both dedicated to advancing the goals of The John C. Lifland American Inn of Court.”

Jim’s practice focuses on civil litigation and corporate counseling, including trial and appellate work in the area of intellectual property, complex commercial matters, and employment law. He represents businesses in a broad spectrum of industries, including health care, pharmaceuticals, and financial services. He received his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
