New York, NY (January 14, 2021) – Epstein Becker Green (“EBG”) is pleased to announce that Karl Riehl, Director of Practice Management, has been tapped as the incoming President-Elect for the National Association for Law Placement (“NALP”), an association of more than 2,500 legal career professionals who advise law students, lawyers, law firms, and law schools.
Before choosing Mr. Riehl from among more than forty highly accomplished candidates, the NALP Nominating Committee considered many factors, including professional experience, volunteer contributions to NALP, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal industry, to select officers and members of its 2021-2022 Board of Directors.
Appointees to the Board “represent the best of NALP — members from national and international employers and private and public law schools of various sizes in cities large and small. These individuals have earned significant professional credentials, and we are excited about the creativity and energy these newly slated NALP board members will bring to their roles,” wrote the Committee.
Beginning with the President-Elect position, Mr. Riehl will serve a three-year commitment during which time he will undertake the roles of President-Elect, President (the chief volunteer and leader of the organization), and Immediate Past President. In these capacities, he will serve on and lead the governing body of the organization, which has the authority to conduct, manage, and direct the business of the association.
“I am honored and also very humbled to have been selected as President-Elect,” said Mr. Riehl. “My long association with NALP has enriched my professional life, and I am excited to assist in navigating the organization through the transformative period the legal industry has entered, using some of the very skills and qualities that NALP has helped me to cultivate. EBG is an ardent supporter of NALP and their commitment to fairness, facts, and the power of a diverse legal community. I’d like to thank everyone at EBG for being supportive of my nomination and service to NALP, and I look forward to working with NALP’s incoming Board of Directors and my fellow legal career professionals as I assume this important role.”
“Not only has Karl, through many years of service to the firm, earned the respect of his colleagues, but he has also earned that of his peers and those in the greater legal community as a whole,” said James Flynn, Managing Director. “He has already made a positive, lasting impact on our organization, and continues to support our attorneys’ growth and professional development while promoting diversity and inclusion. This recognition by NALP is well-deserved, and we look forward to supporting him as he guides NALP over the next three years.”
In April 2021, Mr. Riehl will be formally installed as President-Elect at NALP’s Annual Education Conference.
Mr. Riehl has been a member of NALP since 2002 and has held a variety of leadership roles, most notably serving as a member of the Board of Directors from 2018–2020. He has been on the planning teams for several NALP conferences and has been a frequent speaker on various topics within professional development, including attorney and law student recruiting, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, specifically addressing issues affecting the LGBTQ Community.
Mr. Riehl was also the President of the LGBT Bar Association & Foundation of Greater New York and served on their Board of Directors from 2010–2020. He earned his undergraduate degree from Susquehanna University and his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law, and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Human Resource Certification Institute. Mr. Riehl joined EBG in 2011.
