Columbus, OH (May 15, 2023)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that the firm has received the 2023 Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award, bestowed by the Ohio Women’s Bar Association (OWBA) to one law firm, company, or other legal organization that has a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the profession.

Jennifer (Jenny) M. Nelson Carney, Member of the Firm and Managing Member of EBG’s Ohio offices, accepted the Diversity & Inclusion Champion award on behalf of EBG at the OWBA’s 2023 Annual Meeting, Hidden No More: Taking a Stand & Taking the Lead, on May 12, 2023.

“We are honored to accept this important award,” said Jenny. “Progress toward diversity and inclusion for all is an ongoing endeavor that we pursue with passion. We value our relationship with the OWBA and the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation (OWBF) and look forward to continuing to promote women attorneys at EBG and in the Ohio community overall.”

EBG is proud to support the OWBA and OWBF Leadership Institute, a six-month program helping to connect participants with the tools, resources, and network to achieve their goals as well as to support and promote the visibility and career progression of women lawyers in Ohio. Since 2011, more than 150 women lawyers, from across Ohio, have graduated from the OWBF Leadership Institute. EBG attorneys Jill Bigler and Victoria Flinn McCurdy are graduates of the OWBF Leadership Institute (2015-2016 and 2014-2015, respectively), and Stacie Porter is a member of the current Leadership Institute cohort (2022-2023).

“EBG’s leadership has taken great care to mentor, develop, and promote the next generation of women and minority leaders to become equity partners, work on prominent legal matters, and serve in important firm, practice and office leadership roles,” noted Carrie Valiant, Chair of EBG’s Diversity & Professional Committee. “Additionally, to enhance our recruitment process and promote diverse leaders, the firm participates in the Mansfield Rule and has achieved Mansfield 5.0 Rule Certification Plus.”

EBG’s culture of advancing women and minorities remains strong and, as a result, women and minorities are represented throughout the firm, including on the firm’s Board of Directors, in senior management, on practice steering committees, and in key working groups. EBG’s Affinity Groups, the Minority Attorneys Forum, Women’s Initiative, LGBTQ+ Outreach Group, and the Disability Resource Group, promote an environment of inclusion by supporting diversity awareness and facilitating the building of relationships through shared interests, experiences, and backgrounds.
