Washington, DC (November 30, 2018) - Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that it has bestowed the 2018 Core Values Champion award to three winners.

In 2017, attorneys and staff worked together to define and express the firm's values, creating a Values Commitment that outlines the intangible qualities of EBG that have shaped our unique culture. (Download the PDF.)

In January of this year, we launched the Values Champion program as a way to share stories of EBG employees at all levels demonstrating our core values. From January to October 2018, 105 different EBG employees were nominated as Values Champions. From these nominations, each year we will recognize three annual winners - one Staff, one Associate, and one Member of the Firm. Each winner will receive a gift acknowledging their contributions to the firm's culture.

We are pleased to announce that the 2018 Values Champion winners are:

Anna Jo Burgess

Anna ("Annie") is a long-time, valued employee in our New York office who has served EBG for 23 years. Annie was nominated three times this year for her dedication to the firm and her constant willingness to help our attorneys and clients. One nomination for Annie said, "her professionalism is something to be admired." The nomination went on to say, "She's an asset to the firm and it's an honor for me to nominate her."

Scheherazade Wasty

Scheherazade ("Scher"), Associate, was nominated for her "tireless" work ethic and the quality of her work product. "Commitment is an understatement when it comes to Scher," said one nomination. Her enduring support of partners and her efforts to solve the needs of our clients were consistent themes throughout multiple nominations. Further, Scher's work has helped EBG land new clients this year. It was also noted that "colleagues like Scher are hard to come by."

Laurajane Kastner

Laurajane ("LJ"), Member of the Firm, was recognized as a Values Champion for her work in "not 'doing the usual' but also going out of her way to especially help" other teams and departments. LJ was "extremely essential" in testing and implementing a solution for dealing with corrupted documents, an issue which troubled the firm for over three years. Through this work, LJ demonstrated what it means to hold the firm's interests above our own individual interests, while improving the firm for the future.

“Through this Values Champion program, EBG’s Core Values of client service, collaboration, and care have been consistently promoted and recognized.  Overwhelmingly, our people are exhibiting dedication to our firm, to our coworkers, and, importantly, to our clients,” said Jim Flynn, Member of the Firm. “Further, this program seems to have encouraged our colleagues to work even more closely with one another and to focus on inclusion and diversity in their interactions. Annie, Scher, and LJ embody these traits every day, and we are very pleased to recognize them in this way. We look forward to continuing this program and a renewed focus on our values again in 2019.”
