New York, NY (November 3, 2022)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) attorneys Tamara Bock, Jennifer O’Connor, and Anastasia Regne, along with co-counsel at Sanctuary for Families at the Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services (“Sanctuary”), were recognized by the nonprofit organization for their favorable outcome on behalf of a pro bono client and her daughter—both of whom are survivors of domestic violence.

The 2022 Above & Beyond Awards, held last night in New York City, honored members of the legal community who “go above and beyond for Sanctuary’s clients—providing outstanding pro bono representation and advocacy to survivors of domestic abuse, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence.”

“I had been volunteering with the organization throughout law school, and because EBG is so supportive of us working on matters that we are committed to and have experience with, I knew immediately that I wanted to continue my work with Sanctuary,” said Regne.

Facing up to $80,000 in unpaid rent charges, the client relied upon the EBG attorneys to fight against an alleged failure to pay rent and potential eviction. Fortunately, in March 2022, after a nearly five-year battle, the team was able to achieve a favorable resolution.

“We were able to achieve an excellent outcome for our client and her child, resolving the case such that they owed no rent arrears, avoided eviction, and were able to stay in the apartment throughout the daughter’s time at college,” Regne continued. “Being able to communicate that to our client, and hearing the relief and joy in her voice, was immensely impactful.”

The case demonstrated EBG’s commitment to pro bono work with tangible results that help improve lives. In recognition of its professional responsibility to the communities that it serves, the firm reaffirmed its efforts to provide novel and rewarding opportunities for personal and professional growth through pro bono work.

“EBG’s pro bono program offers junior attorneys real trial experience alongside experienced litigators early on in their careers,” said O’Connor. “The partners involved in these cases are not just bystanders—they are hands-on participants supporting and guiding junior attorneys every step of the process. It’s a holistic approach to litigation that culminates in an important learning experience.”
