Washington, DC (May 22, 2017) — Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that Amy F. Lerman and Charles C. Dunham, IV, have written a newly released topical Portfolio for Bloomberg BNA, titled “Navigating the Telehealth Landscape: Legal and Regulatory Issues.” EBG attorneys Francesca R. Ozinal, James S. Tam, and Theresa E. Thompson also contributed to the Portfolio.
The Portfolio discusses how the growing use of telehealth technologies and services presents a number of significant legal and regulatory issues, many of which present challenges for the providers and users seeking to utilize these services and technologies. These legal and regulatory issues stem from both federal and state laws and regulations, although compliance with state laws takes on greater importance given the professional licensure and scope of practice issues involved with provision of telehealth services.
The authors cover the following legal and regulatory topics in the Portfolio:
“According to a 2016 study, an estimated 61 percent of health care institutions currently use some form of telehealth technology, and between 40 and 50 percent of all hospitals in the U.S. now utilize some form of telehealth technology in their provision of health care services. So telemedicine is certainly here to stay,” said Ms. Lerman. “And that’s why it is important that health care providers, physicians, employers, and other users are up to speed on the various complex issues that this exciting technology presents.”
“There have been movements at the state and federal level with regard to telehealth advancement. So the future, while somewhat unknown, is promising,” said Mr. Dunham. “We were pleased to partner with Bloomberg BNA on this project, and we hope that those who read it find the Portfolio insightful and thought provoking.”
