Nashville, TN (January 3, 2022) Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that it has added a nationally recognized health care construction group to its Nashville office. The Firm welcomes Members of the Firm Christopher S. Dunn, Jeremy A. Oliver, and Keith W. Randall, and Associate Briant Shumard, a group of former Waller Lansden attorneys with extensive design, construction, and real estate litigation experience—particularly for health care providers and REITs.

“Health care design and construction are some of the most regulated forms of development in the United States, with multiple Federal agencies having jurisdiction in addition to State and local authorities,” said Mark Lutes, Chair of EBG’s Board of Directors. “From our clients, we know firsthand that the design and construction process brings challenges including accreditation, reimbursement, life safety, and operations. Chris has one of the foremost practices in the country in health care facility design and construction and we are delighted to add him and his group to our health care and life sciences team. In addition, we recognize that the Nashville metropolitan area continues to be one of the fastest growing markets in the United States. Chris and his group bring distinctive credentials in health care, as well as other forms of commercial and industrial development in the region.”

Chris brings extensive transactional and litigation experience in handling all aspects of complex construction projects, from the creation of custom design and construction agreements to creative and efficient dispute resolution. In 2021, Chris was named a fellow with the American College of Construction Lawyers (ACCL), a national organization of peer-selected attorneys. The ACCL has very limited membership, with approximately 230 fellows currently. In 2018, Chris became a fellow with the Construction Lawyers Society of America, a limited-membership international association of the world’s leading construction attorneys. An industry leader, Chris served on the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry’s Governing Committee from 2015 to 2017.

Jeremy has earned a strong reputation as a skillful, dynamic, and hard-working litigator committed to helping clients meet their strategic objectives. His complex business and commercial litigation practice spans across a wide range of industries, including construction, health care, commercial real estate, financial services, manufacturing, engineering, and retail and hospitality. He has been recognized as a Mid-South Rising Star by Super Lawyers in Business Litigation (2017-2021), America's Top 100 High Stakes Litigators (2018-2021), and The Best Lawyers in America© Ones to Watch in Commercial Litigation (2021-2022). Jeremy is also heavily involved in the local community, currently serving as President of the Nashville Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

Keith protects the interests of real estate owners and developers in negotiating design and construction agreements for complex, high-profile projects in Tennessee and across the country. His extensive project experience spans health care, hospitality, multi-family housing, mixed-use, and manufacturing. Keith has drafted the construction agreements for a number of prestigious projects that are reshaping the Nashville skyline, and he advises real estate investment trusts on a wide range of projects. In addition to his transactional practice, Keith assists clients in state and local government relations, land use, and zoning matters that frequently arise in significant real estate development projects and constitutional litigation.

Briant is a 2011 University of Florida graduate who majored in Civil Engineering. Prior to law school, Briant worked as a project manager for an engineering and construction management company for several years before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2017. He possesses a wealth of technical and real world construction experience, which he applies working in both mid-project operations and claims contexts.

“As we continue to grow our national health care, life sciences, and litigation bench and capabilities, we are thrilled to welcome this talented group to our team,” said George Breen, Chair of EBG’s National Health Care & Life Sciences Steering Committee. “Our momentum was incredibly strong in 2021, and we are excited to begin 2022 on such a high note with expansion in Nashville.”

“Our former firm is an excellent Nashville law firm and Jeremy and Keith and Briant and I leave many friends and valued colleagues there,” said Chris Dunn. “But the opportunity to work with EBG’s health care attorneys in the Nation’s capital, and across the country, presented an opportunity to provide resources to our clients that was very compelling as construction lawyers. We believe that we have joined a team we can grow alongside, with a likeminded culture and a similar drive to cultivate innovative solutions for clients across the country. We look forward to what we can do together with our new colleagues and expanded footprint from home in Nashville.”

This group of attorneys is long-established in the Nashville business and legal community and will build on EBG’s Health Care & Life Sciences practice growth and larger scale geographic expansion, including Columbus, where it welcomed 20 attorneys in 2021. Other recent Health Care & Life Sciences practice hires include Robert Hearn in Florida, a health care attorney and commercial litigator, and Sarah Hall in Washington, DC, a former prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, and health care fraud defense attorney.
