New York, NY (October 18, 2022)Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that it has completed the Mansfield Rule 5.0 and achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status as part of the firm’s enduring commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Additionally, EBG has joined the Mansfield Rule 6.0, administered by Diversity Lab, for a second year of focus on this strategic imperative.

EBG joined the Mansfield Rule 5.0  to support even greater diversity in our law firm as well as the legal industry more broadly. The Mansfield Rule has become the standard by which law firms measure diversity through formalized procedures and tracking systems to ensure underrepresented lawyers are considered for positions, including hiring, staffing, promotion, and significant governance roles. Benchmarking progress and incorporating a reflective element into the decision-making process broadens the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities and this should lead to sustainable change over time.

Mansfield Rule Certified Plus 2022

Mansfield Certification Plus is an elevated status certifying that EBG has not only considered but achieved thirty percent representation of underrepresented lawyers in at least 70% of the Mansfield Rule’s categories.

“Achieving Mansfield Certification Plus status is a milestone moment for us in the effort to making positive progress toward diversity and inclusion,” said Carrie Valiant, Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Professional Development Committee. “Heightened levels of transparency and increased accountability in the firm’s programs have ensured we achieved our goals this year and we will continue to set high benchmarks for ourselves as we move forward.”

“We greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication that [EBG has] invested in this initiative and your strong, demonstrable commitment to moving the needle on diversity in law firm leadership,” noted Kavita Ramakrishnan, Senior Director of the Mansfield Rule.

“EBG’s foundation is built upon diversity, equity, and inclusion. These Core Values remain at the forefront of our culture and commitment to our attorneys and staff that we create an environment where all voices can be heard,” said James P. Flynn, Managing Director. “Taking part in the Mansfield Rule helps us uphold our values so that we may develop to our fullest potential.”

EBG will spend the next year working to achieve Mansfield Rule 6.0 certification, for the term ending July 14, 2023.
