Bradley Merrill Thompson, Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, in the firm’s Washington, DC, office, was quoted in Pharma & MedTech Business Intelligence’s The Gray Sheet, in “Consulting Services at a Discount for mHealth Firms Targeting the Underserved,” regarding Aventor, an organization he founded aimed at providing regulatory consulting and advocacy services to social entrepreneurs who use mobile health to expand health care to the poor.

Following is an excerpt:

“It’s a non-profit charitable group that is trying to use the expertise of [its members] to help companies overcome governmental obstacles to developing new technologies,” describes Thompson.

Thompson is currently funding the organization out of his own pocket, but he is setting it up as a non-profit organization and in the fall will begin a fundraising campaign to keep the venture running for the long term, he said. …

“The state-based regulations and the variability of how states approach these issues are a major frustration,” said Thompson. “If somebody wants to set up a practice in Chicago but serve wherever nationwide there’s no way to do that.”

He says if Aventor selects a company facing this challenge, he and the other volunteer experts would lobby on behalf of the client to work with states to make it happen.
