A firm such as Epstein Becker Green engages in a “a lot of self-reflection as to who we are,” said Amy Simmons, director of legal recruitment and professional development for the firm. …
“We have the same people conduct all interviews because at least on some level it’s apples to apples,” she said.
That committee extends its laser-like precision in a few different ways. For starters, Epstein Becker is an employment and health care firm, so candidates without a firm interest in either practice aren’t going to be a good match, according to Simmons.
Beyond that, there’s what the firm expects out of its summer associates, she said.
The firm’s summer-associate program is somewhat like those that firms have traditionally offered — fun summer activities, such as team-building events, informal happy hours and dinner at a partner’s home. But Epstein Becker also calls for its summer associates to “work really hard over the summer” by helping out with billable projects and the firm’s pro bono efforts, Simmons said.
