Breakfast and Networking: 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Discussion: 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
The California Healthy Families, Healthy Workplaces Act requires all employers to provide paid sick leave to full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who work 30 days or more in California within a year of employment. Compliance is required by July 1, 2015.
This roundtable discussion will explore the more complicated nuances of the Act, such as determining who among your workforce is covered, how to administer benefits during an employee’s first year of employment, how to coordinate paid sick leave benefits with other leave entitlements, and how to roll out the benefits in 2015. As part of the roundtable format, human resources personnel and in-house employment counsel attending the event will be encouraged to share the issues that they have faced in adopting and implementing their sick leave policies.
Topics will include:
- Understanding threshold coverage issues
- Handling first-year employment
- Coordinating sick leave with other leaves of absence
- Rolling out benefits on July 1, 2015
