In 2010, all of the federal agencies responsible for enforcing federal employment laws will step up enforcement audits and investigations. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will conduct more I-9 audits, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will aggressively investigate charges of discrimination, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will conduct more audits regarding misclassification of independent contractors, and the Department of Labor's agenda includes increased audit and enforcement proceedings related to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Likewise, the New York Department of Labor and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo are expected to increase audit and investigative efforts to assure compliance with state laws.

Do you know what to do when the government knocks on your door?

This month's topics will include:

  • How to handle an unannounced government inspection
  • How to prepare for a government audit or investigation
  • How to prepare a response to an administrative charge or complaint

We hope you will join us for this timely and informative briefing.
