Robert Pepple and Epstein Becker Green Receive 2020 Vanguard Awards for Pro Bono Service on Behalf of the Alliance for Housing and Healing

Los Angeles, CA (October 13, 2020)Epstein Becker Green (“EBG”) is pleased to announce that Robert H. Pepple, Associate in the Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice, will be honored by the Alliance for Housing and Healing (“AHH”), a charitable organization that provides housing, food, and support services to men, women, and children struggling with poverty and homelessness and living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County, for his extensive pro bono work for the organization in 2019 and 2020.

Mr. Pepple and the firm will receive “Vanguard Awards,” which AHH presents to “outstanding individuals and organizations that provide extraordinary service to the organization.” Mr. Pepple and EBG are humbled and grateful to receive the awards alongside project co-counsel David M. Walsh and his prior firm of Morrison & Foerster, for the combined work and service to AHH.

Mr. Pepple, who regularly provides pro bono advice to nonprofits and charitable organizations in Los Angeles on employment, federal and state regulatory compliance, and other issues, said, “During a pre-apocalypse social visit, Dave Walsh mentioned that a charity with which he was affiliated was facing some difficult legal issues. Since the issues sounded as if they fell within my wheelhouse, I asked if he would like my high-level take on them. Before long, that small favor blossomed into full-fledged matters that—after some time and effort—we were thankfully able to resolve for AHH. I’m honored that Dave trusted me to run with the ball from start to finish, and I’m extremely grateful that EBG—and Rich Frey in particular—supported my efforts without reservation. Some firms talk about commitment to pro bono, but EBG’s unwavering support in connection with my work for AHH is hard evidence of its conviction to giving back.”

On October 7, 2020, AHH issued a press release describing the work and the Vanguard honorees:

“This year’s honorees have gone above and beyond in providing pro bono legal services, support, and leadership, and they have helped to build for the Alliance a secure framework for our success. A Vanguard is one who goes ahead to lead the way for others. We are honored that Mr. Walsh and Mr. Pepple are our Vanguards to the future,” said David Stamper, Board president of AHH.

“As a former board member, longtime supporter, and pro bono legal advisor, Dave Walsh has been instrumental in our growth over the past 30 years. We could not have done it without his support. Two years ago, Dave brought in Morrison & Foerster and enlisted the assistance of Robert Pepple and his firm, Epstein Becker Green. Robert was truly relentless in his commitment to our future. The MoFo team was instrumental in working through difficult legal issues. I could not be more grateful,” said Terry Goddard, Executive Director of AHH.

Previous recipients of the Vanguard Award have included actress Molly Shannon, entrepreneur Brain Stevens, Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis, and entertainer Kathy Griffin.
