Epstein Becker Green Welcomes Attorney Alaap Shah Back to the Firm, Further Strengthening Privacy & Security Capabilities

WASHINGTON, DC – October 30, 2017 – Epstein Becker Green (EBG) is pleased to announce that Alaap B. Shah, an attorney with extensive experience with legal issues related to privacy, security, and health information technology, has rejoined the firm as a Member in the Health Care and Life Sciences practice, in Washington, DC.

Prior to returning to EBG, Mr. Shah served as Senior Counsel and Chief Privacy and Security Officer at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.  At EBG, he will advise clients on privacy and data security matters, health care fraud and abuse, and digital health strategies.  Mr. Shah has experience with issues related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, anti-kickback laws, the False Claims Act, breach of contract, business torts, and unfair competition laws.  He has established compliance programs, conducted privacy and security risk assessments, established trust networks, responded to data breaches, and managed e-discovery issues.

Mr. Shah is a Certified CSF Practitioner, a designation given by the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST), an organization that provides training to develop and maintain effective security programs for health care and life sciences companies that comply with securities laws, regulations, and standards.  He is also recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems. Mr. Shah is also recognized by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a Certified Information Privacy Professional in the United States.

In addition to Mr. Shah, EBG’s team includes industry-recognized privacy and security professionals, and the firm is the only law firm that is a HITRUST CSF Assessor. The firm’s privacy and security group offers legal services relating to all aspects of data privacy and protection, including data breach defense, protection and compliance strategies, risk assessments, and insider threat management, among others.
