ACA – Medicare and Value-Based Purchasing

The Affordable Care Act (“ACA”) brought about many value-based care initiatives, including Medicare’s mandatory bundled payment initiatives. For example, the ACA includes provisions creating the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (“CMMI”), imposing new program integrity obligations, providing for health care workforce training and chronic disease prevention, as well as any number of major and minor adjustments to Medicare and Medicaid payments to providers and plans.

Previously, there was bipartisan support on the issue of changing the way in which health care is reimbursed. However, the new administration may take a different approach.

Epstein Becker Green will be closely following developments in this area.
