Biography

PAUL A. GOMEZ is a Member of the Firm in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Corporate Services practices, in the Los Angeles office of Epstein Becker Green, and serves on the firm's National Health Care and Life Sciences Steering Committee. He represents a wide variety of health care providers, including nonprofit and for-profit hospitals, health systems, dialysis providers, medical groups, ambulatory surgery centers, laboratories, and other health care entities. Mr. Gomez’s practice focuses on all of the transactional and regulatory aspects of the health care industry.

He was also selected to the Southern California Rising Stars list (2009 to 2012) in the areas of Health Care and Business/Corporate.

Mr. Gomez is a frequent speaker and author on various health care topics, including strategic affiliations, acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as fraud and abuse compliance. He serves on the Bloomberg BNA Health Care Transactions Editorial Committee and is actively involved in several health care legal professional associations.

  • Advising a large nonprofit health system in California with regard to acquisition of equity interests in multiple joint venture dialysis centers
  • Advising a large nonprofit health system related to potential reorganization of its affiliated, joint venture home health agency and related governance structure
  • Advising one of the largest nonprofit, tax-exempt health systems in the country in the formation of a new physician network in California
  • Advising a large nonprofit health system in Southern California in an affiliation to create a new physician network and lay the groundwork for developing a narrow network
  • Advising a client on the purchase of three hospitals in Southern California and the creation of a new health system
  • Advising clients regarding the mergers and acquisitions of hospitals and other health care providers that are owned and operated by health care districts and other governmental entities
  • Counseling a large nonprofit health system regarding the formation of a new 1206(l) medical foundation clinic and related large physician practice acquisition and practice support organization in Orange County, California
  • Advising a large nonprofit health system in the sale of its multistate reference laboratory business unit
  • Counseling a large nonprofit health system and 1206(l) medical foundation clinic with regard to the expansion of a medical foundation clinic and simultaneous closing of multiple physician practice acquisitions
  • Advising a large nonprofit medical center and related medical foundation clinic in an affiliation with a heart research foundation and related physician practice acquisition in Los Angeles, California
  • Providing advice to a large Catholic medical center in connection with the formation of a new 1206(g) clinic, including multiple related physician practice acquisitions
  • Counseling a major pediatric medical group in its acquisition by a pediatric hospital and affiliation with the University of California in connection with the formation of a new 1206(l) medical foundation clinic in San Diego
