There are many approaches that may be employed to better position given health systems, hospitals and physicians for the rapidly changing health care landscape. This article focuses on use of the medical foundation clinic model in California as one such potentially useful approach. There are models similar to California medical foundation clinics in use in certain other states so use of the medical foundation clinic model may be of interest to health care providers outside of California as well.
This article addresses what a California license-exempt medical foundation clinic is, explores how certain aspects of the medical foundation clinic model have changed over several years and examines how such aspects and changes may have better positioned medical foundation clinics to respond to a health care landscape that increasingly consists of value-based payment methodologies, greater coordination and an overall movement toward less acute, less costly and more convenient locations for care.
