Frank Morris, a Member of the Firm in the Litigation practice and head of the Labor and Employment Practice in the Washington, DC office, was interviewed for an article in Business Insurance magazine about legal issues raised by employee furloughs.
A growing number of employers already have introduced furloughs or are considering them, the article reported, but furloughs can affect health plans, 401(k) plans and other benefits.
In the article, "Employee Furloughs Can Complicate Benefits Offerings," Morris stressed that planning is important: "As you're planning a furlough, review the terms of your benefit plan to see what the implications of a furlough might have on each of the benefit plans, and then potentially structure them in a way that would have the least impact on employees and their continued participation in the plan," he said.
