Biography

KATRINA J. WALASIK is an Associate in the Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice, in the Los Angeles office of Epstein Becker Green.

Ms. Walasik’s experience includes:

  • Counseling clients on all aspects of labor and employment issues, including compliance with changing state, city, and county laws; hiring and termination; wage and hour requirements; and employee discipline
  • Defending employers against class action claims and in individual labor and employment disputes arising from allegations of wage and hour violations, including rounding and paystub violations; wrongful and retaliatory termination; sexual harassment; hostile work environment; donning and doffing; and sex, race, pregnancy, and age discrimination
  • Advising employers on practices and procedures, including drafting and distributing employment policies and employee handbooks

In a noteworthy California Court of Appeal case, Hyundai Motor America v. Superior Court (2015) 235 Cal.App.4th 418 [185 Cal.Rptr.3d 349], reh'g denied (Apr. 8, 2015), review denied (June 24, 2015), Ms. Walasik obtained a favorable decision for her client, a large international car manufacturer. The court dealt with the novel issue of whether counsel is entitled to post-judgment interest on an attorney's fee award following the resolution of a case pursuant to a CCP 998 offer to compromise.

Before joining Epstein Becker Green, Ms. Walasik was an attorney in the Los Angeles office of a litigation defense law firm.

While attending law school, Ms. Walasik served as a Law Clerk for the California Teachers Association, giving her first-hand experience and insight into public sector labor and employment law, unfair labor practice litigation, arbitration, and court enforcement of contractual, statutory, and constitutional rights for public employees. She also served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge Loretta M. Giorgi and the Honorable Judge Peter Busch, both of the San Francisco Superior Court, Law & Motion and Discovery Department, and for the Honorable Kathleen Kelly of the San Francisco Superior Court, Juvenile Division. In addition, Ms. Walasik earned an “Outstanding Achievement in Pro Bono” recognition from Hastings College of Law, reflecting her completion of more than 150 hours of pro bono work while earning her law degree.
