Purvi B. Maniar, Member of the Firm, participated in a panel discussion entitled "Healthcare Revisited: Practical Implementation of Health Care Law" at the NASABA 8th Annual Convention, which was held from June 23 to 26.
More than a year after the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, activities to implement its key components are well underway at the federal and state levels. Most recently, new regulations have been proposed under the health reform act in order to create "accountable care organizations" intended to provide "better care for individuals, better health for populations and lower growth in expenditures." However, the proposed program specifics are facing widespread criticism from physician group, hospital systems and other significant healthcare stakeholders, who will not participate in the program in its current form. In the meantime, some states such as California are taking advantage of the opportunity to expand Medicaid coverage in advance of 2014. At this session, the speakers will examine the proposed measures, the legal and practical issues related to their implementation, and the direction that these health reform programs may take in the near future.
