Overview

At Epstein Becker Green, it is our mission to achieve focused excellence, as demonstrated in the services we provide and in the professionals we hire. We achieve excellence by promoting a rich and rewarding firm culture and choosing exceptionally talented and diverse professionals who are "thought leaders" in their practice areas.

Epstein Becker Green is uncompromising in its pursuit of legal excellence and client service in its areas of practice: Health Care and Life Sciences, Labor and Employment, Litigation, Corporate Services, and Employee Benefits. We have approximately 275 attorneys, with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, San Francisco, Stamford, and Washington, DC. Being strategically located in 11 metropolitan cities gives us the ability to collaborate across offices and practices to provide our clients with excellent service.

Our clientele includes global and domestic, public and private, and midsize and Fortune 500 companies. Epstein Becker Green is a founding member of the International Lawyers Network (ILN), an association of over 90 select law firms that provides clients with easily accessible legal services in 66 countries on six continents.

Our firm recruitment program offers opportunities to both law students and lateral attorneys. Our work environment is collegial, energetic, and entrepreneurial. Many of our attorneys began their legal careers at Epstein Becker Green, either through our summer program or as Junior Associates, and remained to join the ranks of our shareholders and senior leadership. In the 2011-12 edition of Chambers Associate, Epstein Becker Green Associates gave high marks to the firm in terms of work/life balance, training and development, diversity, and more.

  • Epstein Becker Green was founded on the entrepreneurial spirit of our attorneys. The firm encourages creativity and drive among its professionals.

Professional Development and Training

Epstein Becker Green is committed to attracting, developing, and retaining the highest caliber of legal professionals. The firm's Diversity and Professional Development Committee is a board-level committee with the responsibility of developing talent at all levels of the firm and promoting a diverse work environment.

We encourage the professional development of all our employees by providing training opportunities, hands-on work experience, mentoring, and pro bono opportunities. To support this goal, Epstein Becker Green has established educational training programs, EBG Academy and EBG University, which provide in-house training and other types of professional development opportunities. In addition to learning necessary legal and practical skills, these programs enable Epstein Becker Green attorneys to acquire substantive knowledge of the firm's practice areas and build critical business development skills.

Diversity

At Epstein Becker Green, we take great pride in our "lifetime commitment to diversity." Since our establishment, we have been committed to creating a work environment that promotes diversity of race, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation and accommodates employees with disabilities.

We are pleased that our policy of diversity and inclusion is regularly recognized by various organizations and publications. For example, Epstein Becker Green:

  • Ranked among the top "Best Law Firms for Women" by Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers for 2012, receiving recognition in the following categories: leadership, compensation, and advancement of women; development and retention of women; flex-time; and time off and leaves;
  • Epstein Becker Green Receives Recognition for Integrating Women Partners into Leadership Roles
  • Received a 2012 Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (this designation recognizes law firms that have successfully integrated and promoted a large percentage of their equity women partners to top leadership and management positions within their organizations);
  • Received a top rating in the Human Rights Campaign's 2012 and 2013 Corporate Equality Index, as one of the best places to work, for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people;
  • Ranked eighth on MultiCultural Law magazine's 2012 "Top Law Firms for Partners" list, fifth on its "Top 25 Law Firms for African-Americans" list, fifth on its "Top 100 Law Firms for Women" list, and 38th on its "Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity" list;

  • Ranked eighth in the nation among the 200 largest firms for its percentage of women attorneys by The American Lawyer's most recent "Women in Law Firms" study; and
  • Appeared on a list of 10 American law firms with between 20 and 99 equity partners, of which at least 9 percent are minorities, in Diversity & The Bar magazine's most recent ranking of the "Law Firms with Highest Minority Equity Partner Levels."

Epstein Becker Green's diversity is also reflected by the fact that women and/or minority firm members are represented at all leadership levels—on our board of directors, in our senior management, on all board steering committees, and at the office managing shareholder level. Our Women's Initiative enhances the careers of professional women at the firm by providing opportunities both inside and outside the office to network, share information, acquire skills, and develop rewarding professional relationships.

We are equally committed to encouraging diversity throughout the entire legal profession. Epstein Becker Green regularly hosts "Diversity Events"—networking events for the firm's minority and majority attorneys, clients, and friends. The firm also actively supports bar association efforts to improve minority education and bar examination passage so as to increase the number of minorities who complete law school and continue on to practice law. We champion events that give our attorneys an opportunity to foster the advancement of minority Americans.

Mentoring Program

At Epstein Becker Green, we believe that mentors can contribute enormously to the success of an attorney's career and satisfaction. The purpose of the mentoring program is to ensure that every attorney is oriented and integrated into the firm's culture and work environment, has an opportunity to form new peer connections and can build on already existing relationships, in an effort to maximize professional growth.

Epstein Becker Green's mentees and mentors are paired based on a sensitivity to individual needs. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that fosters productivity and advancement and helps our attorneys achieve their career goals.

In the practice of law there is no substitute for hands-on experience. The firm uses a collaborative approach to providing legal services that allows attorneys to reap the benefits of working within a small group. We encourage attorneys at all levels to take ownership of new and developing areas of law, with appropriate mentoring and oversight. For example, attorneys can become directly involved in matters, obtain client contact, work on projects through resolution, and assume responsibility early in their Epstein Becker Green careers. This approach offers attorneys the opportunity to prosper from the mentoring available to them, to forge long-term relationships with clients and colleagues, and work closely with other attorneys in the firm.

Pro Bono & Community Service

The firm recognizes its professional responsibility to the communities which it serves and understands the unique and rewarding opportunities for personal and professional growth that pro bono work affords. Epstein Becker Green has a national pro bono policy that encourages all attorneys to undertake pro bono projects, both on their own and through structured pro bono opportunities made available by the firm and through partnerships with other organizations.

The firm also believes in giving back to the community in a meaningful way. As a result, Epstein Becker Green participates in charitable, civic, and community activities, and many of its attorneys serve on governing boards of charitable, educational and other not-for-profit organizations. Our offices often partner with area schools to provide basic legal education in the classroom and to support community schools through fundraising and other activities.
