Ian Carleton Schaefer Joins Epstein Becker Green’s Labor and Employment Practice in New York

NEW YORK (June 17, 2013) — The national law firm of Epstein Becker Green (EBG) today announced that Ian Carleton Schaefer has joined the firm as a Member in the Labor and Employment practice, in the New York office.

As a trusted legal and business advisor with significant in-house counsel experience, Mr. Schaefer focuses his practice on employment counseling and training, employment litigation, and the representation of clients with global labor and employment law needs. He represents clients in state and federal court, and before administrative agencies on a wide variety of employment-related claims.

Mr. Schaefer has significant experience in the technology, media, telecommunications, and arts & entertainment sectors. At EBG, he will serve concurrently as the Head of Employment Law for BT Americas Inc., a subsidiary of British Telecommunications plc., a role he has held since 2009.

"Ian's experience with international labor and employment issues perfectly complements our firm's portfolio of services and will be a great addition, especially given our representation of foreign employers with operations in the U.S. and U.S. companies doing business overseas," said Peter Altieri, Managing Shareholder of the firm's New York office.

"Our firm has a unique and well-defined position in the legal industry. As a result, it is our goal to add talented labor and employment lawyers to our roster to help us continue offering the highest quality of services to our clients. We look forward to having him as part of our team," said David Garland, Chair of the firm's National Labor and Employment Steering Committee, in the New York and Newark offices.

Mr. Schaefer said, "I was drawn to EBG because of their outstanding labor and employment capabilities, coupled with the firm's core entrepreneurial spirit — both of which are mission-critical to meeting the dynamic needs of our global clients. I look forward to collaborating and partnering with EBG's highly regarded group of labor and employment attorneys, and to adding value to their sterling practice."

Mr. Schaefer was recognized as a "Rising Star" by New York Super Lawyers — Metro Edition in 2011. He has written and lectured on scores of labor and employment law topics at Fordham University School of Law and New York University's Masters in Arts Administration program.
