Washington, DC (March 4, 2008) — A new resource is available for women executives looking to advance their career to the next level — whether vertically to the corner office or horizontally into the boardroom. Gathering the collective wisdom of 100 women business leaders at the top of their respective fields, senior attorney and Founder of the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation Lynn Shapiro Snyder has released a new book outlining the best practices for women executives interested in advancing in business. " Helping women advance to senior leadership and board positions is the best way to access the talent and diversity needed to address the pressing issues facing the health care industry today," said Angela Braly, President & CEO of WellPoint, Inc.

The book, designed to help both senior and rising women executives across all industries, explains how best to navigate Corporate America's male-dominated C-Suites and boardrooms, and provides answers to many of the traditional challenges of career advancement, including: self-promotion (explaining when, how, and its necessity); cultivating business relationships (knowing how and when to promote yourself and your business — both inside and outside your organization); delegating; and ever-popular topics such as work/life balance. Advancing Women addresses these topics both through hypothetical and real-life examples. The reader gets a rare chance to learn about these topics through the unfiltered viewpoint of a successful senior executive.

The book also is relevant to those interested in advancing to the boardroom, by providing a list of best practices proven to help catch the attention of the board nominating committee. This list, originally culled from WBL's years of experience in working with board search firms and corporate boards, is one of the few resources available that provides specific steps and tips relating to board placement.

"We published Advancing Women in Business as a way of pooling the knowledge of WBL Foundation Associates to create an effective mentoring tool," said Lynn Shapiro Snyder. "Through writing this book, I hope to demystify the climb up the corporate ladder and into the boardroom." The book provides a means to career advancement for a woman at any stage in her career — whether just starting out or at the top of her company and exploring the possibility of corporate governance. The book also summarizes breakthrough industry research expounding the benefits of gender diversity in corporate boardrooms, and provides women with talking points when addressing the lack of gender diversity in corporate boardrooms with their male (and female) peers.

Recently recognized as a "Woman to Watch" by Jewish Women International for her roles as both a senior member of the law firm of Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. and as the founder and president of the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation (WBL), Lynn Shapiro Snyder is recognized as one of the most powerful people in the health care industry.
